Chiefs Team Doctor

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) is looking for a qualified and experienced Team Doctor to support the Gallagher Chiefs Super Rugby Pacific Team for the 2026 season and beyond.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a high-performance environment at the elite level of rugby. You will help deliver world-class player care, working alongside some of the best talent in the game.

Why This Role Matters

NZR’s vision is Inspiring and Unifying through Rugby – and at the heart of that vision is our commitment to the wellbeing and performance of our players.

As Team Doctor to the Chiefs Super Rugby Team, you will play a vital role in supporting player health and performance, leading injury prevention and management, and promoting best-practice medical care in line with NZR’s Clinical Governance Framework and World Rugby’s Player Welfare Standards. You’ll also contribute to NZR’s national injury surveillance and research programmes, helping advance player safety and performance across the game.

You will be part of a high-performing, deeply connected environment where Chiefs Mana is proudly upheld — a collective spirit built on legacy, identity, community, and unwavering pride in representing the Chiefs jersey. This is more than a job — it's a role within a whānau.

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll be a Registered Medical Doctor with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) from the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and proven experience working in high-performance sports medicine environments, preferably in rugby or other contact sports. Your skill set includes:
•    Proven experience delivering medical care in elite sporting environments
•    A deep understanding of the physical, mental, and cultural demands of elite rugby
•    Outstanding organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
•    A genuine connection to the values of New Zealand Rugby – Te Ara Rangatira (The Rugby Way) – and the Chiefs Super Rugby Club, including Kaitiakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Rangatiratanga, and Chiefs Mana
•    A passion for player welfare, long-term athlete performance and development, and team success

What You’ll Need
•    Registration and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
•    A clear Ministry of Justice Criminal Convictions check
•    Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand
