Head of Inclusion & Safeguarding
We are seeking a pragmatic, values-driven leader who can foster inclusion and build connection and capability across the rugby system.
About the role
The Head of Inclusion & Safeguarding reports into the Chief People, Safety and Wellbeing Officer and is part of the People, Safety and Wellbeing Leadership Team.
In this role, you will serve the rugby community through the implementation of New Zealand Rugby’s (NZR) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) Plan, Pasifika Strategy and supporting action plan and Safeguarding priorities to ensure we create a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment across rugby.
A core focus of the role will be building meaningful stakeholder relationships, working alongside business partners and communities to ensure effective implementation of these priorities in NZR and across the wider rugby community through Provincial Unions.
Looking into 2026, key priorities for this role will be to support and grow gender balance and inclusion, contribute to a more culturally capable system and ensure effective Safeguarding policies, processes, and practices are in place.
About You
As an advocate for change, you champion diversity, promote inclusive practices, and model culturally responsive behaviour.
You’ll be leading a small team, so the ability to operate strategically, influence others, but also roll up your sleeves and get things done will be essential. A mix of cultural expertise and pragmatism will be required to ensure you can build connections and drive change.
Demonstrated experience and impact influencing systems to be more culturally capable (specifically Pasifika cultural capability) and driving equity and inclusion will be an advantage. Experience building relationships and influencing positive change across a large and complex system is desired but not essential.
